Dogma and THE TRUE RELIGION

Spoilers ahead if you haven't seen the movie...... "We do not hate Christ or his teachings... merely his followers." -the Holy Website This quote from The True Religion's Beliefs fits in well with the message of "Dogma" (which is basically that God is good but Religion is not, because humans screw it up. That's ok, because us Head Prophets are GPG's, not humans.) But the point that Wayland and I had the most trouble explaining is that in the movie, God decided to show up in the form of Alanis Morisette (a known Canadian and generally evil being). Why would God, who usually is seen in the form of a fat, black, transsexual, lesbian midget named Delilah want to take on such a blasphemous form? It took us a while to figure it out but it really is simple. According to the movie, any mortal human who hears God's voice directly will be so overwhelmed that his/her head will explode. As you know, Alanis Morisette's music often has the same effect. This wouldn't normally happen in the form of Delilah, but in order to kill Bartleby at the end of the movie, the Morisette form was necessary. As for the angels and the afterlife stuff, The True Religion doesn't have any sort of policy on that; Delilah doesn't live in Heaven, she lives in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I have no explanation for that aspect of the movie, but I'm not losing any sleep over it. ===== Brendan Dillon, General Purpose God antifrance@yahoo.com -==- ICQ: 3129266 http://ducttape.simplenet.com Blessed is he who comes in the name of Duct Tape.
