Meaning and History of the Oligarchy Flag

The flag is a horizontal tricolor, with a black stripe, representing the formless void from which the Gods emerged; a blue stripe, representing the Earth, which will one day be fully under our control; and a silver stripe, representing Duct Tape. Upon the tricolor is a roll of duct tape wrapped around the planet Earth. Around the duct tape emblem are two inscriptions. The first: "We enjoy our delusions of grandeur. Why shouldn't you?" was adapted from one of Cronan's Words of Wisdom. The second: "In vodka veritas" is Latin for "In vodka, there is truth."
Historical versions of the Oligarchy Flag:
Original prototype, October 1999. (Never used.)

Fortunately, this terrible flag never appeared on the website
(until now). The photo of the three (at the time)
Co-Rulers of the World seemed like a good idea at first, but the design was
quickly discarded.
Revised prototype and official flag, October through November 1999.

The photo of the Co-Rulers was replaced by the more
appropriate strip of duct tape, and the flag was
ratified
as official. However, it didn't last for long on the site. It was decided that more variety
was
needed on the bottom half of the flag, which was dominated by Little Bobs.
Official flag, November 1999 through February 2002.

The can of Foster's beer was added to convey the Oligarchy's true nature.
Revision prototype, February 2002. (Never used.)

The Co-Rulers of the World had long since abandoned beer in
favor of liquor, so they began
searching for alternatives to the beer can on the flag. This version was briefly
considered.
Official flag, February 2002 to July 2004.

The Foster's can was ultimately replaced with a fifth of Smirnoff Blue Label vodka, the Co-Rulers' liquor of choice.
This was the final revision of the original flag layout.
Though it is no longer
in use, part of it can still be seen in the
Oligarchy University emblem.
Official flag, July 2004 to present.

The Co-Rulers of the World ultimately decided to abandon the
format that had served the Oligarchy
for so long, for a number of reasons. A start-from-scratch redesign resulted
in this new flag. See
the top of this page for the flag's meanings and symbology.
